Summery Nailpolish Cheapies

This past weekend my girlfriends and I went out  for a dinner date to catch up after having not seeing each other for quite some time. After dinner we stopped by at Walgreens because one of my besties wanted to run in to grab something. The first spot we stopped at was the, obviously, beauty aisle, lol! We were looking at nail polishes when my bestie said, "I just can't see myself spending a ton of money on just one nail polish." I agreed, as I'm sure many other fashionistas out there also do. Every once in a while you will catch me spending $12 or so on a bottle of nail polish, but majority of the time I usually prefer to spend less than $6 on them. I look at it this way: I can save my money and put it towards bigger pieces like a premium perfume, the perfect purse, or a stunning shoe. When it comes to nail polish, I'm really not much of a brand nut; I actually look at the color of the polish itself more than any other factor.

This week the Sinful Professionals nail polishes are on sale for ONE DOLLAR, that's right ONE DOLLAR, only at Walgreens. They're normally $1.99 (normally a pretty good deal in itself), but not this week! So, hurry up and grab yourself a handful of polishes before they disappear!!! The colors that I chose were some that I don't really have in my collection of polishes, but why not try some out when you're only dropping ONE DOLLAR on each? I tried to pick out colors that I know are in for the late spring and early summer seasons.

When we were ready to check out, we were looking at the each others picks of polishes. My friend and I noticed we had chosen the same color, "Island Coral." That particular color was actually my number one choice. Now remember one important rule of being a top-notch fashionista: a chic girl is a girl who knows how to bargain shop!

Beauty Tip 3: Cucumber - A Wonderful Beauty Aid

If you want a happy skin, then cucumber is the answer. You may improve your complexion by applying a paste of cucumber mixed with raw milk. It will take 15 minutes for cucumber juice to seep into your skin then wash off with fresh water. It also helps in soothing and softening your skin.

Metropolitan Gala of 2013

Ahh, exciting indeed! The Metropolitan Gala: the Oscars of the fashion world! This event, a literal buffet of what's hot in fashion with all the big names you know and love. This year's theme is trending towards a punk style. Numerous celebrities came dressed to the nines in their favorite punk-inspired design, bringing out their inner rebels and rockers. Some were stunning, while others were, unfortunately, a bit out of control (or all-together just... Bleh); however, such is the risk of punk inspired fashion, where it's either hit-or-miss with little in between. The main color worn was black, in keeping with the motif, but of some celebrities chose to take slightly different approaches; like they say, where there's risk there may be great reward. I decided to rank the celebrity dresses from 1 (burn it) to 10 (fabulous). I have no love/hate relationships with the celebrities themselves, so I kept these as strictly my opinions based on their attire. Though I do love this event, I will look forward to next year's Metro Gala as this year didn't quite strike my fancy. Oh well, the fashion world continues to turn while we all try to keep up and trend up!

Country Chic

The weather's getting warmer, the grass is growing taller, and nature in green and in full swing! Time for all the ladies out there to jump onto another hot trend this coming season: the country look A lot of people get this idea that country girls aren't trendy or fashionable... WRONG! Being country chic can be a great look, and is a lot easier to pull off than you may think. This look centers around lace, earth-tones, pearls, and a little southern sweetness!

For my look, I went with the lacy, white dress, sporting some brown, leather spring booties. These shoes accentuate the look as they blend the appeals of country-style boots together with high-fashion-style high heels. One key element to rocking your new country chic look is SIMPLICITY.

Tone down on both makeup and accessories. A more natural look works best with this style; let that natural beauty you all have glow for the day! As for accessories, use one or two statement pieces, but be careful that they don't take too much away from the outfit, or yourself. Pearls are a great way to bring some extra pizazz to an outfit without overdoing it, and they're easy to match with just about anything (AWESOME INVESTMENT).

It is worth mentioning that the nail polish I chose to use for this shoot was featured in my last "Nail Polish of the Week" segment. It helps add an extra touch of color to the look, but is still a subtle enough tone so as to not take focus from the rest of the outfit. Now, I suggest you all head out and try your new country look! Put a lil' twang in your voice, put on some Carrie Underwood tunes, and show the world that country is the new word for chic!

Manicure Monday: The Gray-t Escape

As spring arrived, I found myself stuck on a particularly beautiful shade of gray nail polish; I know folks, totally not a spring color. "The Gray-T Escape" by Sally Hansen, and trust me when I say that it is definitely another perfect spring another. After wearing it a couple times, I found myself always getting tons of compliments on the beautiful color. It has just a hint of purple to it that helps lighten it up for a more spring-y feel. I absolutely ADORE the bigger-than-usual brush it uses, as it definitely makes for easier application. It's not too expensive compared to other typical polishes, with a retail price of around $4.00. This polish looks fabulous with any complexion, so give it a shot while you make your own "Gray-T Escape" through life (or at least spring).

MAC Maniac

The only place you catch me on a Friday night is, yes, the mall! My plan was to go in just to get a couple of items off my shopping list for my closet. A few minutes into my shopping trip, I saw a store I just could not pass up!!!. As I walked out of Bloomingdale's, I saw one of my favorite places ever... The MAC store. As I saw my reflection upon the outer glass, I knew I belonged inside immediately. I know, I know, this girl is obsessed with MAC, but I'd buy the whole store if I could afford it. Ever since I bought my very first MAC lipstick, "Love Lorn," I fell madly in love with all the other lipsticks they carried.

So, I devised a plan to build my collection by purchasing one lipstick per month. It was about that time, and I wanted to pick a shade of lipstick that was suitable for the hot summer season coming up. After a little help from the amazing make up artist on duty (Sahyd), I found what I was looking for: "Viva Glam" by Nicki.

When I first sampled this lipstick, I fell in love with the hot-pink tones, with just a hint of coral. This shade instantly made my eyes pop along with my cheeks due to the contrast. I can't wait to get my summer tan to try on and see how this wonderful lipstick stands out against a darker complexion!

Cheetah Lover

Cheetah never gets old... No matter the season, this type of animal-print tends to stick around every year.  I, personally, am a huge cheetah print lover! When you wear this print the three S's are in full effect: you should feel sassy, sexy and sweet all at the same time. A nice cheetah pattern can make even the most timid of girls feel fierce and feminine.

When wearing cheetah print be careful not to overdo the print; pick one cheetah print item, and coordinate it with complementary colored pieces. I wore a dress featuring the pattern, and was sure to utilize more solid colors for the rest of my outfit (black is always an easy pairing with this pattern). NEVER mix other animal prints with cheetah... It is just not flattering... Trust me. In this photo shoot my inner cheetah came out lol. Feel the ferocity!
